I Drive I-25 participant Adrienne J on Vanpooling
Adrienne J. is an I-Drive I-25 participant. In early 2017, Adrienne made the switch back to vanpooling thanks to our I Drive I-25 program. Smart Commute followed up with Adrienne, who kindly shared her experience.
I’ve met new people who work where I work and live where I live, and I have a fixed schedule that holds me accountable.
Smart Commute: Tell us about your commute before I Drive I-25.
Adrienne J: Before I would drive myself to work from Loveland to Westminster. I’d leave around 7:30am and get home around 6:30pm.
SC: What is your new commute like?
AJ: My new commute is more time but less driving. I leave my house around 6:15am and drive north to meet the van at 6:30am and get back to the meeting spot around 5:30pm, getting home around 5:45pm.
SC: What was the biggest barrier to starting this new commute?
AJ: I knew that this meant carpooling with people based on their schedules. Public transportation leaves and arrives consistently and is always running, and driving myself means working only around my own personal schedule. This is very dependent on lots of people and coordinating everyone’s personal schedules.
SC: What are the advantages of your new commute?
AJ: Because I am under 24 I don’t have to drive (I’m not qualified through the program until 25), I’ve met new people who work where I work and live where I live, and I have a fixed schedule that holds me accountable.
SC: What are the disadvantages of your new commute?
AJ: I have to drive 5 miles north to commute 45 miles south, the schedule of the van is very early, and because I don’t drive I have to drive myself if no one is going in.
SC: Would you recommend this commute to others? Why?
AJ: Yes I would recommend this commute because I think it is beneficial to carpool as far as the environment, traffic, and wear and tear on your personal vehicle goes.
SC: How long is your commute, in miles?
AJ: 40 miles from my house to work
SC: Roughly, where does your commute start and end?
AJ: King Soopers 29th St. Loveland to DigitalGlobe Westminster
SC: If you had to write a Haiku about your commute, what would you write?
The work week is long
The commute is much longer
Why do it alone?
