David C. started on Bike to Work Day – #bikespiration

For Colorado Bike Month, Smart Commute is sharing short inspirations from real people about why they bike to work now, or why they biked to work at a previous position.

Today’s bike-spiration is from David C. who is with Clinica Family Health, who started a bike commute routine on Bike to Work Day (and you can too!).

“About 10 years ago, I decided to try Bike to Work Day. I had been riding a fair amount recreationally, but was not sure how to turn my riding into commuting. I was a little nervous as to how I would be able to get to work, and be ready to dress for an office environment.

I found that it was not that hard, and with a little pre-planning, it can be very easy. The key is to prepare by taking clothes (especially shoes) to the office prior to Bike to Work Day. After that first time, and finding it to be a very smooth experience, I began to ride to work more regularly. Within a year or so, I was riding to work about 85 times a year. Now that I live a little further away, I still ride as much as I can. That is about 3-4 times a week for the summer. And I still love doing it, getting exercise, and by not driving, I’m saving gas, money, and wear and tear on my car. And if I can do it, anyone can. So can you!”
