Mark E gets Honest About His Long Commute

Mark E works for Amazon DEN3 in Thornton. During the months of May and June, through a partnership with the Denver Regional Mobility and Access Council, Mark received several Uber Vouchers, allowing him to continue getting to work while RTD’s services were limited under the COVID service plan.  Mark shares his experience below, and the support he received due to the 144th and Wagon Road FlexRide and it’s program manager, Jeanne.

Going back to the regular schedule might take some of the unreliability and tension people are feeling out of the service for both bus drivers and riders.

I am Mark E.  I live in Aurora and commute to Amazon in Thornton four days a week including Sundays. My daily commute is long, and I rely on the 144th FlexRide to take me the last stretch of my trip between the Wagon Road Park-n-Ride and DEN3. I also used Smart Commute’s Uber Program over the summer, particularly on Sundays because it was the only way to get to work. I appreciated the program because without the $25 one-way credits, the cost to take an Uber would have been prohibitive long-term at about $40.

I think the 144th FlexRide from Wagon Road Park-n-Ride to Amazon is an excellent idea. Some FlexRide drivers really make it happen; however, there seems to have developed a certain animosity between a few other drivers and the passengers. This frustration between drivers and riders stems from the bus not showing up at any regular time. I have even taken an Uber from the Wagon Road Park-n-Ride because no FlexRide bus was there, and then I couldn’t be sure when they arrive or if they would get me to Amazon in a timely manner at all.

The weekday schedule right now is not reliable. Please go back to the regular schedule, which runs on Saturdays, and please make sure the schedule we use is followed by all drivers. Going back to the regular schedule might take some of the unreliability and tension people are feeling out of the service for both bus drivers and riders.
