ShineOn’s Dual Beam Bike Light Improves Cyclist Safety at Night

One of the important transportation safety issues of today is connected to bicycling. As traffic in Colorado increases, so do the dangers for bike riders. In 2016, there were 16 local bike rider fatalities; in 2018, that number jumped to 22. The numbers seem to present an upward trend — but with a little help from innovative technology, we may yet curb the climbing statistic and keep cyclists safer on the road.

ShineOn, a local startup established by students at the University of Colorado Boulder, intends to do just that. As they say on their website, their mission is to “make the world a safer place by providing cyclists with a simple solution to greatly improve their visibility to motorists and other cyclists.”

ShineOn focuses on the safety of cyclists with their dual beam bike light. This innovative bike light does more than light the way for bike riders in the dark: It also shines a light on the rider without impairing their vision, making them much more visible at night — particularly to drivers:
